Carrying forward the tradition of wins Welingkarites bagged many prizes this year . They were shinning stars at Vihaan’2011, annual festival at BIMTECH, NOIDA.
To start with, Himanshu Kapadia (PGDM 2010-12 ) (HR) secured the 1st prize at the “HR Quotient – Best HR Manager” – a competition organized by BIMTECH, Noida as part of their festival Vihaan’2011 .
In the first round of the finals, a topic so close to Indian hearts,’ After the loss of the England series loss, does Team India need an HR Manager?’ was chosen, the participants had to convince BCCI for the need of an HR Manager for Team India , suggest the name of an Ex – Cricketer who is young, has a good standing and convince them about appointing him.
The second round included Team Building Activity where the participants In groups of four each ,had to discuss, debate, negotiate and zero in on the final choice of HR Manager for Team India . Himanshu was appointed the leader of his team and had the responsibility of substantiating his choice with reasons While facing the judges. This was followed by a panel discussion. The Judges for the contest included Ms. Ester Martinez – CEO & Editor, People Matters Magazine (India’s leading HR Magazine) and Mr. Pravin Kumar – GM – HR – Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL).
But the VIHAAN story did not end there. Amulya Tadimeti PGDM (2010-12) – Kasturi Shinde PGDM-BD (2010-12) bagged the third prize in the National level ‘On The Spot Social Entrepreneur Competition’. The team was to visit an unknown location in Noida, observe and converse with the locals for one hour and spot social business opportunities in the location (Tugalpur-market place) and come up with their business plan .The situation at the site was found to be very bad with the drainages clogged with plastic, rubber, rags etc. The team developed a plan for plastic recycling which dealt with garbage clean up, water de-clogging and setting up of complaint mechanism.. The winners were not only awarded with certificates and cash prize but also received a call from one of the judges regarding their plan with a promise to help them take it forward.
Lily David & Sharon D’costa, (PGDM-BD) won the 1st Prize in the Regional Round of AIMA-Eighth National Competition for Management Students.
The two had to put forth their ideas on Theme- ‘Building Sustainable Indian Multinationals: Agenda for Action’. The Jury consisted of Senior Management from Raymond’s Ltd, HDFC Life, AIMA jury member, Dean of Atharva Business School.’ We are proud to have faculty like Prof Gondhalekar & Deepa Dixit who provided their inputs, without which it could not have been such a Success. Jalpa Ma’am has been an immense source of encouragement too!”Exclaimed Lily and Sharon.
Adding to the series of victories was the MSME 2011 2nd National Conference organised by Indian Education Society (IES), Bandra. The WeSchool team comprising Ritu Samdani, Nitin Shinare and Bhavna Talreja (PGDM-EBIZ-2011-13) won the third position in the contest. The MSME of their choice, was the Kolhapuri Chappals and they diagnosis of the problems faced by the sellers along with the panacea for the same really impressed the judges.Mr. Vithal Kamat (President-MEDC, Owner of Kamat Group of Hotels) , guest of honour on the occasion applauded them for the effort.
Another laurel that reaffirms our faith in the tradition of excellence at Welingkar was the publication of an article ‘FMCG Sector Report ‘co -authored by Gaurav Arora (PGDM -E-BIZ) and Abinash Kumar,(PGDM II 2011-2013) in the Niveshak,a journal dedicated to finance , IIM,Shillong .it was first ever paper-writing experience for the Fresher duo ,both hailing from different academic disciplines at graduation, but the guidance and mentoring by the faculty , along with the support provided by the WeSchool Library made the success story possible.Similarly another thought provoking article ‘Role of Public Private Partnership in Economic Development’ by our student Glenda D’Souza was published in IIM Shillong’s Conquest Magazine.
Ameya Amlekar and Sneha Porwal MMS 2010-12 (Finance) got the first position in the online event ‘Beat the Market’. It was organized by TAPMI and tested contestants’ mettle in stock market analysis. The two companies featured in this issue were Tata Chemicals Ltd and Idea Cellular .The contestants were required to analyze the stock movements of the above two companies till 25th July, 2011. On the basis of the technical and fundamental analysis, they were to give share price estimate of these two stocks as on 5th August, 2011. Fundamental and Technical Analysis carried 70% weightage whereas 30% weightage was for the accuracy of the estimated price.
The winners received a cash prize and letter of appreciation.
