Our planet has a massive human population that is expected has hit 8 billion this year. While the population is expected to grow further, it is important to pay heed to the issues that arise with the rapid growth. Over population is a crucial issue, especially considering that world resources are depleting at an unsustainable rate. So to create Awareness about the effects of overpopulation on development and nature , World Population Day was celebrated in campus.
The theme for World Population Day 2023 was “Unleashing the power of gender equality Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our worlds infinite possibilities”. According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), the day “offers a moment to celebrate human progress”. The awareness on world population day helps in developing higher leadership skills, Innovation, communication, Global perspective and the role of self in the society and organization. At the same time it also helps in nurturing the Critical and analytical thinking skill.
Through these activities, the students learned not only about population control issues, but also about the potential consequences of expanding population on Mother Earth. Among other things, family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights these issues too were discussed.
To augment awareness on World Population Day, institute also organised an Quiz Competition for the students of PGDM Rural Management. Students who scored the highest were awarded with the prize.
