The alumni was happy to answer questions varying from industry practices to evolving job roles. They stresssed on the significance of summer intership.Dispelling the myth among students having doubt regarding starting their careers with a sales profile, they emphasized on the importance on beginning their career from the bottom. The alumnus made it very clear that it’s really important to understand the customer especially in the retail sector, and there is nothing better than sales that can provide this knowledge. It is very clear that “you have to get your hands dirty if you really want to reach to heights in retail industry”.
Importance of live projects, certifications and competitions during the placements ,they carry lot of weightage during the interviews and recruiters give lot of importance to the same.
The alumni panellists mentioned the benefits of experiential learning in competitions and increasing the chances of getting interview directed in one’s favour.
The role of automated technology and its future in the retail sector was also discussed. Students learned about how Flipkart managed plastic ban in Maharashtra and came out with a new material.
The relevance of networking and establishing contacts is a skill which cannot be undermined in the corporate world.
The key take away from the alumni-student was all about self updation . “If you are not updated you are outdated”
